The Worship School

LeeAnne shared a link with me back in March to a place called "The Worship School"

TWS is a 6 Month program located in Spokane, WA. Forty prayerfully accepted students attend classes one weekend a month from the months of May through October in the city of Spokane. The school is designed to equip, educate, and edify worship leaders in all things worship and particularly music. The goal is to go deeper in theology, musicianship and how the two combine in the context of corporate congregational worship and the personal internal worship of Almighty God.

I have always wanted to go back to school and receive a bit more education, particularly in the craft that God has allowed me to use in my job--Music. But it is difficult to take a few years off to go to school. Especially when you are working full time over two different ministries (Music and Youth).

I was apprehensive to fill out the application for TWS when Lee sent the link to me. I would find reasons not to. "What if they are already full?" "What if they just flat out say no?" "How are we gonna pay for this?".
All of these are legitimate fears. For someone who doesn't deal with rejection well, the first two questions are monsters.

I knew with people like Leeland, Phil Wickham, John Mark McMillan, Dustin Kensrue (of Thrice and The Modern Post), Jesse Reeves, Aaron Keyes, and Charlie Hall, there would be a lot of people applying to get in on this extremely rare opportunity. This was going to be a school of only forty students! The amount of attention the teachers can give the students is so much larger than at conferences of a few thousand or even a few hundred. "There's no way I could get in, or there would be room." I told myself and LeeAnne. But part of my spirit was telling me to be impulsive and bold. My adoptive parents and my biological mom are all pretty bold and put themselves out there to try new things, I always admired that. So I did it. I swallowed my fears and filled out the application.

I understood that my God is sovereign and if He didn't want me to go to this school He could work in a way to keep me from going. I decided in my heart that if the Lord moved in the leaders of TWS, as they prayed over my application, to admit me to the school that the Lord didn't have a problem with me going to this and He might provide the way for me to go. I knew that if I were accepted, I had to trust that God had this whole situation under control and that He would make the way available for me to attend this school.

Two weeks later, I received an email informing me that I was accepted into The Worship School class of 2014! I was in! 1 of 40! A wave of excitement and fear overcame me at the same time. I was going to sit and learn under some guys who I looked up to tremendously, "but how am I going to pay $1,800 in tuition? Plus airfare and lodging expenses?"

We were fortunate that the school allowed a 3 payment plan and I was at a place financially to at least put down the first installment of the tuition. My Bio-Mom (for short) was gracious enough to help me with airfare to get me to Spokane. Also, the school has worked with some of the nicer hotels a block from the school to give a student discount, and they have also rallied some church members to serve as host homes. With that, I  would either be able to split hotel costs with fellow students, or stay at a host home and rent a car to get to downtown Spokane.

I know that one way God works is in how He empowers His people (myself and fellow believers). In the context of Him empowering me, I have created a GoFundMe Page that works like Kickstarter. Essentially when people donate to the page, it can earn them rewards. I don't have many skills, I can make youtube videos and I can make music and sing. I'm using those talents as parts of the reward system. You can go to the page and see what kind of rewards you can get for giving.

The goal amount for the whole school endeavor is $7,000. That is for the remainder of my tuition, airfare, lodging (or travel in city) and possibly books that teachers suggest we read prior to the courses of that month. Each month will cost me around $1,000 to cover those expenses. On the gofundme page, you may not be able to give a lot in one donation, but you can commit to give monthly and at the end of the 6 months we'll combine your donations and if they equal up to one of the rewards, you receive that reward.

I know some of you may have already committed to giving to our mission to India. Thank you for that! I ask that you would pray and see if giving financially to this would be something you could and would want to do. Also, if you would go to my gofundme page and share it with your Facebook/Twitter friends and spread the word.

This is a great opportunity for my personal growth as a musician and minister. This is also a very beneficial opportunity for the church that I serve in as I grow and become a better leader for my local church family. I believe God designed me with these talents and I'm meant to use them for the good of my church.

The link for my gofundme page is http://www.gofundme.com/8i90p4, please at least take a look at it.

Thank you so much for all your support through prayer.  Thank you to those who have already given towards this and our mission to India. You are all a beautiful blessing to us.

Grace and Peace be with you,

Jeremy DeLara

Late Update: Apologies

Dear Friends and Family,

First, let me apologize for this has been long overdue.

As many of you know, LeeAnne and I were preparing to head to Belize last year for a mission trip to visit our missionaries there and help them with a family camp.

Many of you were so gracious to send support and help to us to fund that trip, so much so that we were able to actually fully fund both of us. You have no idea how grateful and excited we were and still are!

Unfortunately, due to circumstances that happened in Belize, we had to cancel the trip entirely.

Earlier in the summer, Dan and Vicky Weaver, our missionaries in Belize, were in an automobile accident. The wreck put Vicky in a coma in Belize for some time. As our church corresponded back and forth with the Weaver family, we had to make the decision to stay in the states. Dan's plan was to get Vicky stateside since the healthcare in the US was far better than Belize's. Vicki was able to get the treatment she needed stateside and, as far as we know, they were able to get back on the field.

Since the trip was canceled, LeeAnne and I went back to regular business at our jobs and ministry that getting a letter out to all the people we initially sent letters to slipped our minds. This is why I opened the letter apologizing. It's a new year now, and I know some people are wondering how the trip went.

LeeAnne and I were both disappointed that we could not go on this trip, but there is a positive for not being able to make the trip.

This summer, our church is planning on a trip to India to serve with our missionaries there in the various ministries and work they do there. The funds that were raised for Belize can simply be applied to this trip. We now have a SUPER HEAD START in raising support for this trip, which is good because the trip to India for one person is close to the price that it cost for both of us to go to Belize.

This letter is meant to serve two purposes:
First, to inform you of the circumstances that surrounded last year’s Belize trip, and
Secondly, to ask that you would consider continuing to support us in our missions endeavors by contributing through prayer and financial means to our trip to India. As mentioned earlier, the cost for both of us to travel to Belize is the price it takes for ONE of us to travel to India. There are also a few extra costs as far as medical expenses to get the shots and medications that we require to travel to the country.

The trip to India will be July 28th-August 9th. The cost for the trip itself will be around $2500 per person, Plus another $140 for our visa and whatever cost for the shots we need to travel over there. As of now, we have enough to pay for one of us to travel and are currently trying to save funds to pay for both of us. We are both needing to be fully funded by June 1st.
If you wish to donate to our trip, there are a couple ways you can do so:

We are extremely sorry for such a late report on the subject of our mission to Belize and hope that the tardiness of this report will be found by you with a gracious heart, and we promise to be more punctual with our reports. If you have access to the internet, you can go to our missions blog (linked above) and keep up with how things are going.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, and please continue to pray for LeeAnne and I as God grows us into ministers at home and abroad.

We love all of you and hope at some time we are able to see you face to face again (or for the first time, seeing as some of our respective families have not met our significant other).

Grace and Peace to you,
Jeremy and LeeAnne DeLara

Support Needed!

God has done so much in mine and LeeAnne's life together in the past 18 months. It has been so awesome to see God grow us closer to Him, and in turn grow us closer together. God has pressed upon our hearts something specific that I believe He desires for us to do together.

On July 29th, our church home, Fellowship Baptist Church, is going to Belize, Central America to teach at a family camp. The team will return August 5th. God has burdened both LeeAnne and I that this mission trip is for us. We both have spent much time in prayer and study for confirmation from His Holy Spirit, and have full confidence that God has this Belize trip in His will for our lives.

As you know, these trips cost money. I struggle to say, “Unfortunately,” because God causes us to step out on faith and trust that He will provide the means and the way if we just surrender to His will and say “Send me.”LeeAnne and I have surrendered, and given God our “yes”.

The cost of the entire trip is $1200 per person. We must have $800 each by July 1st in order to get plane tickets purchased before the price significantly increases. I know money to God is nothing; He holds the whole world in His hands. I also know that God uses His Spirit to burden others to be a part of His will in others' lives with faithful monetary giving and prayer.

Please prayerfully consider partnering with us financially with a tax-deductible gift. If you are unable to give, we ask that you pray for us over the next two months as we prepare for our trip. We know in our spirit that God has called us to go to Belize to preach the gospel and love on the people of Belize. What part do you play?

This blog is intended to give people a place to check back on our progress leading up to the trip, and the trip itself.
